The story of The One Shirt Shop
Hi, I'm Julian. I'm the founder of The One Shirt Shop. This is my story.
In 2023, I felt lost in life. I was searching for purpose, trying to figure out how to live up to my full potential as a man. On top of that, a thought I had stumbled upon in the subreddit r/showerthoughts refused to leave my mind. I found it equal parts fascinating and deeply unsettling.
So I traveled to the Himalayas to find answers.
One day, outside a small mountain monastery, I encountered the scholar Wangchen Chakdor Rinpoche. He invited me to stay the night at the monastery.
We joked and talked about anything and everything until deep into the night, in a way only strangers in the mountains can. At some point, I decided to tell him about r/showerthoughts and the thought that had been haunting me for months. Without warning, I looked him in the eyes and said:
"Almost every hand you've ever shaken has had a dick in it."
His previously gentle expression turned to stone. An uncomfortable silence fell between us. He looked at me with a grave, penetrating stare. I was seriously afraid he would put me into a coma with a well-aimed Dim Mak punch or use some dark Buddhist magic on me.
After what felt like an eternity, he said: "Go to sleep."
He closed his eyes and sank into deep meditation.
The next morning, Wangchen Rinpoche approached me at breakfast.
"Julian" he said, "I spent a long time last night thinking about your thought from these Reddit Scriptures. This morning, during an extraordinarily long shower, I have come to a conclusion. I have come to the conclusion that it is true."
He continued:
"This is a very powerful thought. As powerful as only a few ancient spiritual mantras. There is great energy in it. Masculine energy. In Taoism, it is known as Yang energy. In the West you call it, I believe, Big Dick Energy. This thought has the potential to bring people together from all over the world. Perhaps even to create world peace. Print this thought on a shirt and sell it in an online shop! This is your destiny! Go now in peace. I have nothing left to teach you."
Suddenly, everything became clear. With every word he spoke, the knot in my mind loosened a little more. I finally understood why this one thought had never let me go, and I grasped its full significance. It was the most powerful thing that had ever happened to me.
Now I knew my destiny. And I knew how to live up to my full potential as a man.
After a warm farewell — during which Wangchen Rinpoche shook my hand long and heartily — I traveled back home and immediately began preparations for The One Shirt Shop.
Wangchen Rinpoche was very satisfied with the result and has since ordered more than a dozen shirts for his novices. He says the shirt has great karma.
As for me, I am now a man who has fulfilled his destiny. I've made it my mission to help other men fulfill theirs.
There are shops out there that will tell you you need more than one shirt. This is not one of them. Frankly, we consider this a form of quite ruthless and unethical marketing designed to make you buy silly products that serve no further purpose whatsoever.
As the founder of The One Shirt Shop, I promise you: We will never sell more than one shirt. We will never tell you that you need more than one shirt, because it's simply not true. I myself wear no other shirt than this one, and when it needs washing, I just go shirtless for a bit.
Meanwhile, I have lost count of all the acquaintances, friendships and romantic encounters I can directly attribute to this shirt. Memorable moments of laughter, camaraderie and closeness I would probably never have had without it.
